within the Northumberland National Park.

The campsite is close to the quiet village of Stonehaugh (pronounced Stone-Hoff) which was designed in 1951 as a village for the Forestry Commission workers at the time when Wark forest was being planted. The site is comparatively flat and is therefore suitable for tents, campervans, caravans and motor homes.

The campsite is kinder to the environment, with a wind turbine and PV panels on site providing power, and the water heated by solar panels.
The campsite is set on the edge of the Wark forest, and has been in existence in one form or another since the 1950s.

Tranquil Nature

Stonehaugh is a quiet and relaxed rural site situated within both the stunning Northumberland National Park and the Kielder Water & Forest Park.

The famous totem poles

The three totem poles are recognized as a distinctive village landmark, located in the Warksburn picnic area.

Dark Skies

Stonehaugh Campsite has one of the darkest skies in England, so it's a fantastic place for stargazing.

Warksburn Picnic Area

Warksburn picnic area is only a ten minutes stroll from the campsite. Set under the three famous totem poles, it is a perfect place for a picnic and a paddle in the cool water of the burn.

The Facilities on our campsite

Shower Block

A cedarwood constructed shower block on site provides shower facilities (3 Men and 3 Ladies), toilets (3 Men and 3 Ladies), a sink for washing pots and pans and a family bathroom with bath, hand basin and toilet. Electric shaver sockets are also provided.

Campsite Shop

We now stock a range of food items, including long life milk, muesli, Pot Noodles, biscuits, tinned items, flapjacks, chocolates, sweets, crisps and drinks etc.
Also locally sourced honey, handmade sustainable charcoal and logs. Small gas canisters, starter logs are available in the shop, firepit rental is available too.

Waste Disposal

An on-site facility is available for the disposal of chemical closet waste. Refuse and recycling bins are located around the site. Glass can be recycled in the village which is only 250 metres away.

Electrical Outlets

There are 12 low power (6 amp) electrical hook-ups on the site, these need to be booked in advance. Please note electrical heaters in tents are not allowed.

Phone & e-Bike Charging

We offer free phone, gadget and e-bike charging, just ask at reception.

Picnic

Several picnic tables are located across the campsite.

Taps

In addition to the shower block there are 3 taps located around the site.

Local Facilities

Stonehaugh Community Hall

The social club, a short walk from the campsite, incorporated in the Scandinavian style village hall is open Thursday to Sunday evenings inclusive from 8pm, serving drinks, a few snacks (but not hot food). There is a pool table, darts board and free Wi-Fi.

Nearby Shops

There is a mini supermarket in Wark (6 miles). There are shops/cafes/cashpoint in Bellingham (10 miles). Hexham is the biggest town in the area with many shops and a historic centre.

Fuel Stations

The closest fuel stations are in Bellingham and Hexham.

Eating Out

There are also pubs in the surrounding villages that serve food - The Cheviot Hotel, Bellingham (01434 220696); The Battlesteads, Wark (01434 230209); The Crown Inn, Humshaugh (01434 681231).

Hospital

Nearest GP practice is in nearby Wark. (Tel: 01434 230654). Closest hospital is in Hexham with an urgent treatment centre, open from 8am until 10pm. The closest A&E departments are either the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and The Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Playground

There is a play area in the village suitable for children up to 10 years of age, it includes swings, a slide and an aerial runway.
